Blue Tree Acoustics Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) #11Question Why is Air Tightness important? Answer Poor air tightness increases energy usage which means increased carbon emissions and increased cost both financially and environmentally. By limiting the leakage of heated or conditioned air from buildings, it is possible to reduce energy consumption of the building, which reduces costs. The UK government has made commitments to reduce carbon emissions through the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and the Kyoto Agreement. This commitment has been encompassed in Approved Document L of the Building Regulations. Part L introduces performance requirements on air tightness and requires a set amount of air tightness testing. |
