Office Acoustics and Office Acoustic Assessments and Reports (BREEAM, HW17)Noise can prevent staff from being able to work. It can distract and it can reduce the chances of people being able to understand each other. BREEAM 2006 and 2008 are standards used to ensure that offices perform satisfactorily acoustically. The British Council for Offices Guide is another acoustics standard for office developments. We advise clients that they bring us in at the beginning of the project as a number of problems can be picked up and avoided in the early design process. Specification of sound insulating doors, walls and floors as well as sound absorbing materials comes later in the design, but is also critical. We also visit sites in order measure the existing performance of a development and compare it with the standards.
